Cookies are always welcome on this blog. I don’t need a reason or an excuse to bake and eat cookies. Especially during December I don’t even need to write a big introduction or say much about my cookies. Just two words.. Christmas Cookies. Simple, delicious and crowd-pleasers.
A three-hour flight and three overweight suitcases. These were enough for my final moving (at least I hope it’s the final one). For the third year in a row I had to move during October. First it was to UK, then Germany and now back to Greece. It seems that October is my favorite moving month.
It was just a couple of months ago, that I ate endives for the first time. A Belgian friend introduced me to this lettuce-like vegetable that belongs to the chicory family and has this unique, slightly bitter taste. She even prepared for me one of the most popular Belgian dishes; endive ham au gratin.
Have you ever tasted a persimmon? This little, orange, juicy and incredibly sweet fruit that appears in the market during fall. According to Hommer and Greek mythology, persimmon (or lotus) was a narcotic, causing people to lose their memory or sleep forever.
The first time I heard about applesauce I got so excited I couldn’t wait to try it. A healthy, sweet sauce that can substitute butter/oil in cakes and tastes like apple? This must be the most amazing and delicious thing in the world. So I found one of those skinny, low-fat kind of recipes that uses applesauce instead of butter and I was ready to give it a try.
What are the ingredients of your perfect sandwich?? I usually make a sandwich, when I am in a hurry and just looking for a quick on the go snack. A simple ham and cheese filling is usually enough, and if I am not too bored I might add some slices of tomato or lettuce. But lately I realized that with only a few extra touches, even an ordinary sandwich can be turned into the most delicious meal.
Nutella Thumbprint Cookies. One more cookie recipe on the blog. This time we are talking about a shortbread cookie filled with nutella and covered with hazelnut. And then a little extra chocolate.. just for decoration. Is it too much? Ok, ok.. but you are not gonna eat the whole batch at once, right? Even though I have to warn you; these are addictive!
In Greece, vegetables such as eggplants, zucchini and peppers are at their peak during the summer months. These vegetables usually served fried, accompanied by tzatziki or some other Greek spread. But! I prefer my vegetables grilled, tender and juicy, topped with a bit of crumbled Feta or Katiki cheese.
For many years, I believed that carrot cake is the weirdest cake of the entire cake world. I kept ignoring it and refused to taste it. It’s not that I hated carrots or something like that. I just couldn’t eat a cake that its main ingredient was carrot; the same vegetable that I used to make a salad.
White wine summer sangria. Yes! It tastes as delicious as it sounds. Summer is coming to the end but there is still time to try this refreshing white wine sangria with peach and berries.
